Sleeping on the couch

Only three months into the marriage, and it happened.  I slept on the couch.  To be fair, I offered to.  Matt has been feeling pretty bad since about Friday and decided to ignore the pain all weekend.  Finally last night he got a fever and was miserable.  I slept on the couch.  After all, we did say the whole "in sickness and in health" thing.  This morning a quick trip to the Urgent Care center showed that Matt had an ear infection and strep throat.  Yuck!

Today has been full of

They love me

You want to know how I know that my sisters love me?

They made a special trip before coming to see me and brought to WV some pretty amazing treats!

Sister Weekend

Sister weekend kicks off in t-minus 2 hours!  I'm so excited because we never get to spend time together with just the 5 of us.  Once Alex goes off to PSU in the fall we literally don't get to see her until Christmas time, and even that is cut short because of bowl games.  It's a great way to bring an end to the summer, having an entire weekend with just us (and Matt gets to tag along, of course..haha).  We have some fun things planned for this weekend...Live on the Levee and taking the boat out tonight, a little shopping tomorrow, and definitely some good food thrown in there!  I'm so excited for this weekend, I can't wait for them to get here!

Nothing new

Nothing terribly exciting going on these days.  Matt works all day, I've been working at David's still all day...then we eat, sleep and occasionally take the boat out.  I'm totally fine with this.  Finding the excitement in everyday life...I guess that is what the first year of marriage is all about!

(Also I'm thinking I could have an entire blog devoted to stories from work.  It would be the funniest thing you've ever read.)

Lessons

There should seriously be lessons for wakeboarding.  Other than this...

Matt got a wakeboard the other day and just knew that he'd be able to get up on the first try.  Haha...right

Originally I was only going to know how to drive the boat for emergency purposes.  I guess Matt wanting to learn how to wakeboard has become an emergency.  In all seriousness though, I'm glad that we've been able to go out on the boat, just me and him and I've been able to practice driving while he's practiced wakeboarding (as in trying to get up).

It looks nearly impossible...then just when I look over my shoulder and see that Matt is almost up, I can feel him let go of the rope.  We need someone with experience (that has done more than watch youtube videos) to help us out with this one!  We look like fools out there on the water, and I'm sure everyone that rides by (seriously I've seen like 5 year olds waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, etc.) gets a good kick out of two adults (ew, did I just really call us adults?) out in the middle of the water not knowing the first thing about what they are doing!

Fabric Photo Frames

So I saw this project over HERE and knew I had to give it a try.

After a few frustrating days of trying to find out how to get pictures printed on styrene, I gave up and opted for a little twist on the photo display.

First find picture frames and fabric.  I got my frames at Michael's (don't forget to use a weekly coupon).  Go for a colored frame to add a little personality to your walls.  I was going to buy wood frames and spray paint them red, but instead found red wood frames on sale!  I also found my fabric on sale at wal-mart one random day when I wasn't even looking for it.

Take the glass out of the frame and flip over the frame-back on a piece of fabric.  Cut the fabric with about a half of an inch (on each side) larger than the frame back.

Fold over the fabric around the sides of the frame back and secure (either hot glue or tape the sides down).

Next I found wooden blocks that I spray painted a neutral tan.
(Also got the spray paint on sale at Michaels.)

Using photo corners I attached the pictures to each block, then using this awesome new thing I found (glue sheets), I attached each blocks to the fabric.

Here is the final product!  It's perfect for our empty entry-way wall!

Travel Monday

First off - The scheduled blog timer thing does not work on Matt's laptop.  Ugh...sorry for the delayed posts.

Travel Monday - Finland Edition

I mentioned that I've been hanging out with Riikka and we've been talking about cultural differences and asking each other a million questions.  There is even talk of Matt and I visiting Riikka and Kelly once they move back to Finland next summer.  I would LOVE to experience that country!

(A big difference - I hate to grocery shop...Riikka loves it because we have so many options.  I told her I would take her to Sam's Club because that is like the most American thing ever...buying in bulk.  She said if she saw that much food and stuff she'd probably have to take a picture to show her family because they wouldn't believe that people buy that much stuff...hahaha)

Anyways...here are some pretty pictures that I found of Finland.  I'm dreaming of visiting there now!

"Helsinki is not only the capital of Finland, but it is also the country’s largest city. Situated on Finland’s southern coast, it is almost entirely surrounded by water and offers easy access to some of the islands in the Finnish archipelago. Helsinki Finland is a very prosperous city with a high standard of living, and it is noted for having the world’s highest literacy rate. Those who travel to Helsinki will likely notice how proud Helsinkians are of their city, and it’s not hard to understand why. There’s plenty to see and do in Helsinki Finland, and after exploring the city and its sights by day, visitors can interest themselves in some vibrant Helsinki nightlife, which is livelier than ever. There has arguably never been a better time to travel to Helsinki, and you’ll want to spend at least a few days here if you can.
Founded in 1550 as part of Sweden, Helsinki Finland would linger for centuries as nothing more than a small coastal town. In 1812, the city assumed the role of capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland after the Finnish War. Between 1809 and 1917, the city and the rest of modern-day Finland fell under Russian control, and it was during this period that Helsinki really began to grow, not only in size, but also in importance. Sweden had long recognized the threat that Russia posed before it annexed Finland to the growing adversary, and as such, it built the island fortress of Soumenlinna. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fortress of Soumenlinna is spread over seven islands and is a top Helsinki Finland attraction. Work started on the fortress in 1748, making it one of the oldest surviving structures in the city, and for those who fancy picnics, it offers a most ideal setting that is worth taking advantage of."
